The Adams Collection honors Churchville businessman
In memory of former resident and businessman Bob Adams, his wife Kay, has established a special collection at the Newman Riga Library. Kay, former director at the library, then known as the Riga Free Library, wanted to honor Bob's memory as well as provide material for the library community. Establishing a memorial collection provides a financial boost for the library and serves to keep loved ones in the minds of all who knew them. more

Wal-Mart plans continue forward
For more than one year, officials at Wal-Mart have been compiling paperwork and a draft environmental impact study (DEIS). Recently, the Sweden Planning Board approved the draft environmental impact study. more

Logel calls for cooperation
Newly elected Chili Supervisor Tracy Logel called on Republican members of the town board to put aside political differences in order to focus on the important issues facing the Town of Chili. Logel was responding to recent actions taken by returning town board members to reduce the ability of the incoming supervisor to make changes needed to control town finances and make town government more accessible. more

The circus comes to Hilton
Northwood Elementary School in Hilton will host two circus artists during the week of January 12-16. This circus skills residency is slated to be a multidisciplinary educational experience. It will enhance the physical education, science, language arts, music, art, and social studies curricula, according to organizers. more

Statewide student financial aid day set for February
SUNY College at Brockport will be hosting a day-long financial aid workshop for prospective students and their families, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday, February 7. The workshop is designed to answer questions and provide assistance regarding financial aid application, types of aid available and the award process. more

Students' research rewarded
To encourage students to use historical records, the New York State Archives, a program of the State Education Department, is sponsoring the 14th annual Student Research Awards. The contest is open to all New York students in grades 4-12 who use historical records in their research projects. more

Chili Senior Center Programs
Harlem Globetrotters - a trip to see the Harlem Globetrotters at the Blue Cross Arena on Sunday, February 8. Blue Devils improve to 4-1
Brockport received goals from four different players and goaltender Pat Young stopped 27 shots in net as the Blue Devils defeated Rush-Henrietta 4-2 in a high school hockey game played at the ESL SportsCentre. more

Blue Devils netters top Saints
Churchville-Chili won the first game and had a 3-0 lead in the second before Brockport rallied to take three straight games and beat the Saints 18-25, 25-19, 25-22, 30-28 in girls volleyball. more

Blue Devils win "Chow" Tourney
Brockport and Spencerport met in the championship of the annual Coach "Chow" Girls Basketball Winter Classic played at Roberts Wesleyan College and the Blue Devils scored fourteen of the final 25 points in the game to win their second title in three years. more

Karate promotions awarded in Gillam Grant program
Senseis Juan and Andrea Rodriguez were promoted to Go-Dan (5th degree black belt) in Isshin Ryu Karate by Shihan Cyndy Jones on behalf of Master Kichiro Shimabuku of Okinawa. The husband and wife team started training in Byron at the Gillam Grant Collamer-Jones Karate in 1988. more

Kendall woman wins NYS seniors tournament
Carolyn Sill of Kendall captured the AA Division in the New York State Women's Bowling Association Annual Seniors Tournament in Dunkirk in August 2003. Sill had advanced to the state finals after winning the Rochester Women's Bowling Association AA Seniors title at Domm's Bowling Center in May. more

Stuczynski scores 22 in Raiders win
Senior Jennifer Stuczynski led all scorers with 22 points and three other players scored in double figures as Roberts Wesleyan routed Ursuline College of Ohio 89-47 in women's college basketball. more
