Kira Mikels, of Roosevelt Highway, Hilton, was named to the dean's list for the fall quarter at Rochester Institute of Technology. A third-year student in RIT's College of Applied Science and Technology, Mikels is studying mechanical engineering technology. She is the daughter of Bill and Nancy Mikels and a 2001 graduate of Hilton High School.


Jennifer Marie Uzialko received a bachelor of arts degree magna cum laude, from the State University at Albany on December 7, 2003. She pursued dual majors in criminal justice and sociology and will continue her education in the fall of 2004. Uzialko is a 2000 graduate of Churchville-Chili High School and is the daughter of Edward and Mary Uzialko, Stony Point Road, Ogden.


Lisa Fitzsimmons of Churchville, a 2003 graduate of Churchville-Chili High School, has achieved the dean's list with a 3.51 GPA for the fall semester at St. John Fisher College in Rochester. She is a freshman accounting major.

Fitzsimmons is the daughter of Tom and Sharon Fitzsimmons of Churchville.


Erin Kimmerly of Peck Road, Hilton has been named to the dean's list for the fall semester at Canisius College of Buffalo. A fourth year student majoring in digital media arts, she received a grade point average of 4.0.

The daughter of Keith and Marianne Kimmerly, she is a 2000 graduate of Hilton High School.


Monroe County residents have each been awarded scholarships to attend Alfred State College.

  • Zachary Deruyter of Spencerport was awarded approximately $2,000 for the All-American Scholarship. Deruyter is slated to graduate in 2004 from Spencerport High School and intends to enroll in the automotive trades-automotive service program.
  • Cassidy Rowe of Scottsville was awarded approximately $2,000 for the All-American Scholarship. Rowe is slated to graduate in 2004 from Wheatland Chili Central School and intends to enroll in the business-accounting program.
  • Jason Strollo of Rochester (14624) was awarded a $500 Alumni Scholarship. Strollo is slated to graduate in 2004 from Churchville-Chili High School and intends to enroll in the mechanical engineering technology program.
  • Timothy Boerschlein of Churchville was awarded a $500 Educational Foundation Academic Distinction Scholarship. Boerschlein is slated to graduate in 2004 from Churchville-Chili Senior High School and intends to enroll in the construction management engineering technology program.

The All-American Scholarship (free board) is awarded to students who possess an 88 or better high school average through their junior year and who have achieved at least 1100 combined SAT score or a composite ACT score of 24. Recipients must maintain a required GPA (grade point average) to continue to receive free board in subsequent semesters.

The Alumni Scholarship is awarded to children and grandchildren of Alfred State alumni with an 80+ high school average. Awards are disbursed over four semesters provided scholarship requirements are fulfilled. The Alumni Scholarship is made possible through the generosity of the Alfred State Alumni Association.

The Educational Foundation Academic Distinction Scholarship, based on scholastic achievement, is from the Educational Foundation of Alfred, Inc., according to Deborah Goodrich, director of admissions and enrollment management at Alfred State.


Realtor Abramo "Brom" Bianchi of Re/Max First received top honor from The Greater Rochester Association of Realtors, Inc. at the 93rd Annual Leadership and Awards Ceremony. He was recognized by The Greater Rochester Association of Realtors as the Sales Master Platinum Award recipient for sales performance in 2003.

To achieve this award a Realtor must have achieved closed sales of more than $10 million in sales volume for the fiscal calendar year. Bianchi has also acquired the following designations: GRI; graduate of Realtor Institute and CRS; Certified Residential Specialist. He has been specializing in Real Estate in the greater Monroe County for the past 20 years.

Bianchi is a life-long Rochester resident, and a graduate of Gates Chili High School and St. John Fisher College. He is an active member of the local community and along with his Real Estate business, he enjoys volunteer work with the School of the Holy Childhood, Town of Gates commissioner, and volunteer coaching of his children's activities.
This award places Bianchi in the top one percent of all Rochester Realtors and Associates.
