SUNY College at Brockport to host Diversity Conference

The Department of Recreation and Leisure Studies will host the Fourth Annual Cultural Diversity Conference, Within Our Grasp: Building Community Through Diversity, February 27. The day-long conference begins with registration at 8 a.m. and continues throughout the day with Keynote Speaker G. Pritchy Smith giving the opening address at 9 a.m. Along with workshops and a luncheon/panel discussion, evening entertainment featuring Sankofa African Dance and Drum Ensemble will round out the day. All conference activities are in the Seymour College Union.

Keynote Speaker G. Pritchy Smith is a professor of curriculum and instruction at the University of North Florida, teaching courses in the sociology of education and multicultural education. He is also one of the founders of The National Association for Multicultural Education. He is a columnist for the journal Multicultural Perspectives and author of Common Sense about Uncommon Knowledge: the Knowledge Bases for Diversity in Teacher Education.

The conference is free, and the luncheon/panel discussion is $8 faculty and general public, $5 students. Reservations for the luncheon/panel discussion must be received by February 18.
