Town of Chili receives public works award

At the American Public Works association (APWA) banquet in January, the Town of Chili received an award for the Westside Drive Improvement Project. The award category was transportation projects under $2 million.

The project involved improving Westside Drive in front of Roberts Wesleyan College. The road was widened, a center raised median constructed, and new and additional street lights installed. At the peak of the hill, the grade of the road was lowered over six feet to improve site distances.

Safety for both vehicles and pedestrians was greatly improved by the project as well as the attractiveness of the area was improved. On hand to accept the award were Councilwomen Ginny Ignatowski and Mary Sperr and Commissioner of Public Works Joe Carr.

The project was managed by the Monroe County Department of Transportation (DOT). Both the Town of Chili and Town of Ogden highway crews performed much of the work. Roberts Wesleyan College was involved in the design work and funding was obtained with the assistance of Senator Jim Alesi.

This was the nineteenth annual awards banquet for the APWA and it was the fourth award the Town of Chili has received.
