Blue Devils netters in finals

Top-seeded Brockport overcame a nine-point deficit in the first game and went on to sweep fifth-seeded Gates Chili 25-16, 25-19, 25-18 in the semi-finals of the Monroe County Championships. The win allowed the Blue Devils to advance to play third-seeded Churchville-Chili in the championships. The winner moves on to a first-ever Intersectional Tournament involving the four other state sections that play girl's volleyball during the winter season instead of the fall. Brockport has won both previous matches with the Saints this season.

Gates Chili opened up a 12-3 lead in the first game before the wheels fell off the Spartans chariot. Brockport scored nine points in a row and closed with a 22-4 run including consecutive aces on the final two points by Jackie Steubing to win Game One.

Game Two was tied at 13-13 before the Brockport offense rediscovered their flow. Three kills and an ace from Jamie Hugelmaier, two kills from Steubing and a tip for a kill by Ashley Olsheski for the final point gave the Blue Devils the win.

The final game featured nine ties including 15-15 before Brockport outscored the Spartans 10-3 down the stretch. Hugelmaier led with 15 kills in the match to go with her 14 digs. Danielle LeBeau led with 17 digs and Olsheski handed out 30 assists.
