Hawthorne nets overtime winner for Saints

Senior Colby Hawthorne scored an unassisted goal into an empty net 3:04 into overtime to lead Churchville-Chili to a 3-2 victory over Spencerport in high school hockey at Scottsville Arena. The Rangers had pulled their goaltender in an attempt to pick up extra points in their bid to make the sectional playoffs.

Following a scoreless first period, the Saints took a 1-0 lead in the second period. With their goaltender pulled for an extra-attacker on a delayed penalty, Hawthorne chipped the puck over the Ranger goaltender with assists from Tim Bernard and Kenny McCorry.

In the third period, C-C made it 2-0 when EJ Coyne took a pass from Mike Hall, skated around the Ranger net and shot the puck through the goaltender's pads.

Spencerport failed on three previous power play opportunities in the third period but got another chance in the final two minutes of the game. Head coach Tom Donnelly pulled his goaltender for a five-on-three advantage and the Rangers capitalized twice in the final minute of play to tie the game 2-2.

Spencerport's Jerry Pucillo scored his first goal of the season with assists from Chris Mark and Josh Nau to bring the Rangers to within one goal. Twenty-two seconds later Mark swept in a perfect cross-ice pass from Joe Zaccaria from the side of the net for his fourth goal of the season to send the game into overtime.

Spencerport's Kevin Glover stopped 24 of the Saints' 27 shots while Jeremy Rossignolo made 19 saves for Churchville-Chili.
