Winter fun with lots of snow
An afternoon of winter fun was on the menu at the Town of Parma's Winterfest Celebration held on Saturday, February 7 at Parma Town Hall Park. The piles and piles of snow were the main attraction at this year's event thanks to a record-breaking snowfall in January. more

Prescribed burn on Iroquois National Wildlife refuge planned
Iroquois National Wildlife Refuge plans to conduct prescribed burns during the months of February, March, April, May, October, November and December. The goal this year is to burn a total of 150 acres within six grassland fields and one emergent (cattail) marsh. more

Regional Odyssey of the Mind
competition comes to Spencerport Feb. 28

Some 160 teams representing more than 50 schools throughout Western New York will come to Spencerport on Saturday, February 28, for the Region 14 Competition of Odyssey of the Mind. An international event that requires teams of students to compete and solve creative problems, Odyssey of the Mind is now in its 25th year. more

Riga Republican Committee offers citizenship award
The Riga Republican Committee has established and is offering a Citizenship Award in the amount of $500. The award is available to any Town of Riga resident who is between the ages of 16-21. The Citizenship Award may be used for educational travel, training, education, trade tools or personal improvement. more

St. John, Hamlin honors Military personnel and their families
On February 29, St. John Lutheran Church, Hamlin will hold a special community service to honor area military personnel currently serving in different areas of the world. more

C-C schedules kindergarten registration
The Churchville-Chili School District will be holding kindergarten registration from March 1 until March 9. Children who will be five years old by December 1, 2004 are eligible to attend Churchville-Chili kindergarten this fall. more

Gap Mangione to visit Hilton Schools
Rochester's well-known jazz pianist, composer and arranger, Gap Mangione, will open the world of professional musicianship to Hilton Central School third graders February 24 through March 11. more

Hilton Board of Education appoints interim supervisor
At its regular meeting February 10, the Hilton Central School District Board of Education approved the appointment of C. Tod Eagle, currently District Superintendent for Monroe 2-Orleans BOCES, as interim superintendent effective July 7. Eagle will be retiring from BOCES in July and will replace the current interim superintendent, Josephine S. Kehoe, Ed.D., whose contract will expire June 30, 2004. more

Uncommon Denominators exhibit
built on links between teachers

Brockport High School Art Teacher Pat Groves' art work is on display at The Little Gallery at Nazareth College Arts Center until February 18 (exhibit hours: 9-4 Monday-Friday). The collaborative exhibit called "Uncommon Denominators" also features photography and digital images by Terry Kolb, supervisor of student teachers at Nazareth. more


In Seniors:

Valentine, Oh Valentine!
On Tuesday, February 10, the children from the Hilton elementary school grades 4 and 5 visited with seniors at the Hilton Senior Center. The students read poems then personally handed out Valentine cards that were made by all the children from the Hilton School District. more

From couch potato to runner in 12 weeks
Brockport residents Julia Mundorff and her sister, Chrisa Yaeger, looked in the mirror one day and didn't like what they saw. They both realized they'd let themselves go, that having children had changed their figures and not for the better. more

Halter, Rodas pace Eagles
Christine Halter scored ten points with eight rebounds and five blocks and Stacy Rodas added ten points with six rebounds as Kendall celebrated Senior Night with a 50-25 trouncing over Oakfield-Alabama in high school girl's basketball. more

Hilton JV Cheerleaders win competition
Hilton JV Cheerleaders won first in Greater Rochester Cheerleading and Dance Championship in the Intermediate Division I at the Blue Cross Arena on January 31. This ends their perfect season. more

Hilton's Bell wins by pin
Chris Bell pinned his man in 3:06 at 215 lb. as Hilton dropped a 36-16 decision to Webster Schroeder in high school wrestling. more

Holley hosts sportsmanship workshop for Section Five
Holley Central School District hosted a Section Five Citizenship Through Athletics (CTA) Workshop for area coaches and athletic directors. Presenting were Tyler Eichas, Section Five CTA coordinator, and Kathy Hoyt, Section Five sportsmanship coordinator. more

Salmin, Vitale post Saints wins
Freshman Paul Salmin and eighth grader Chris Vitale posted wins and Joe Telaro won via forfeit as Churchville-Chili lost a 61-14 decision on Gates Chili in high school wrestling. more

Silver Bullets win competition in Canada
The Dynamic Silver Bullets won first place in the Cheer Division on Saturday, December 5, 2003 and first place in the Cheer/Dance on Sunday, December 6, in the "Festival of Lights" cheerleading tournament in Niagara Falls, Canada. Sarah Brongo won most spirited cheerleader for her team. more

The Hilton Chapter of Knights of Columbus held their district level foul shooting contest on Saturday, February 7 at Saint Judes in Gates, and three area youth advanced to the March 13 regional. more
