Nominations for SUNY Maritime scholarship open

Nominations are being accepted for a college scholarship program created by the State Legislature two years ago. The program awards scholarship winners with full tuition for four years at the State University of New York Maritime College in Throggs Neck, New York.

"It is my privilege to be able to help a young man or woman embark upon a maritime career," Senator George Maziarz said. "This wonderful program will undoubtedly change the life of a young person for the better."

Senator Maziarz has one nomination open to SUNY Maritime's Regiment of Cadets. Applicants must be a high school graduate or within one year of graduation, or have attained a high school equivalency diploma. At the time of admission, the applicant must be a first-time, first-year college student.

Applicants must have a GPA of 90 percent and a combined SAT score of 1200 or better, and they should possess determination, leadership skills, and community involvement.

SUNY Maritime will review the applications received from Maziarz's 62nd Senatorial District and inform him of nominees eligible for acceptance. To be considered for a nomination, candidates must submit an application to SUNY Maritime by March 30.
