RPYO-RPO perform Music Italian Style
Sunday, February 29, Eastman Theatre at 3 p.m.

The Annual Side-by-Side Concert of the Rochester Philharmonic Youth Orchestra and the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra will take place on Sunday, February 29, at 3 p.m. at the Eastman Theatre under the direction of Dr. David Harman, RPYO Music Director. This joint concert is an established tradition in Rochester, bringing together on stage the student musicians of the RPYO with their professional mentors of the RPO. This important part of the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra's educational program is an exciting occasion for students and professionals to share both music stands and their love of music-making.

In honor of the RPYO April Tour to Italy, the concert's theme is "Music Italian Style." The Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra will join the youth orchestra musicians after the intermission to perform music of the Italian composers Rossini, Respighi, and Verdi. The combined orchestras, almost 150 strong, will play Rossini's lively overture to "La Gazza Ladra" (The Thieving Magpie), Resphigi's symphonic version of a ballet by Rossini, "La Boutique Fantasque," and the ballet music and triumphal march from Verdi's opera "Aida."

The Rochester Philharmonic Youth Orchestra is comprised of 95 middle and high school musicians from 33 schools in the greater Rochester area and selected through highly competitive auditions. It is sponsored by the Education Department of the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra and rehearses at Apollo Middle School in Greece.

Concert tickets are $8 general admission; $5 students and senior citizens. Tickets are available at the door.
