Cadets fall in third period

Hilton led 2-0 after the first period, but allowed fourth-seeded Irondequoit to score three unanswered goals over the final two for a 3-2 sectional playoff victory ending the Cadets season.

Jon Fose gave Hilton a 1-0 lead when he snuck a tough angle shot between the goaltender and the goalpost from the left faceoff circle. Adam Lynch made it 2-0 less than three minutes later when he broke down the right wing and slid the puck into the net.

In the last four minutes of the second period, Irondequoit tied the game with two goals before the Eagles Nick Kane scored the game-winner with less than three minutes left in regulation when his shot was partially stopped before dribbling over the goal lie.

"They beat us to the puck too many times and I think that was the key to the game," said head coach John Farnham. "After the first period, we were just looking to keep adding goals. We weren't going into a defensive shell or anything. Both teams seemed a little tentative at first and the whole game was a lot less intense than most Irondequoit-Hilton games - I think both teams played nervous."

Previously this season, the two teams split the series 1-1 with Irondequoit winning in December 2-1 and Hilton returning the favor in early February by the same score.

Hilton had five seniors dressed for their final high school game: Nick Curran, Adam Lynch, John Vinciquera, Kyle Kimmerly ad Mitchell Auble. The Cadets also placed three players on the postseason White Division all-star team: first team forward Jon Fose, first team defenseman Adam Lynch and second team goaltender Jake Burge.
