Rangers fall in sectionals

Seventh-seeded Spencerport led early in the second quarter by four points, but could not hang on in a 41-37 loss to #10 Greece Olympia in a girl's sectional basketball playoff game.

A 6-0 run by the Spartans at the close of the first half gave them an 18-14 lead, which they expanded to twelve points late in the third quarter. The Rangers' Kacey Pratt hit two free throws and Lisa Hryvniak hit a field goal to pull them to within six points at the start of the fourth quarter before allowing Olympia to score six straight points to return their 13-point lead.

Spencerport then scored twelve consecutive points - nine by Pratt sandwiching a three-pointer from Hryvniak - to put the Rangers one point down with 1:51 left. But Olympia scored the final three points over the last sixty seconds to seal the victory.

Pratt was 10-11 from the free throw line and led all scorers with 18 points for the Rangers. Hryvniak scored seven and Angela Bopp added four points. Olympia had three players in double figures in scoring.

Spencerport seniors Melissa Eldridge, Shannon Elliott, Jenna King, Regina Martuscello and Christina Sullivan all suited up for the final game of their high school careers.
