Spencerport's Mills leads
Brockport to NCAA's;
Whitmore Coach of the Year

SUNY Brockport's men's basketball team is heading to the NCAA Division III tournament for the third time in four seasons and Spencerport native Brandon Mills is among those leading the way.

Brockport was to host the winner of the Lasell/Trinity game on Saturday, March 6 at home. "We had the sixth strongest schedule in the country," said sixth year head coach Nelson Whitmore. "I think that, coupled with the fact that we won 14 of the last 15 and had 21 victories really helped us with the selection committee."

Mills finished his final regular season second on the team in scoring with 15.2 ppg, tied for first in blocked shots with 25, second in field goal percentage and second in rebounds. Senior Charlie Cross was first in three of those categories and joined Mills as two of three players to start every game this season.

Whitmore won the SUNYAC Coach of the Year award for the third time in his six seasons as he led Brockport to 14 consecutive league wins this season. He topped the 100-win plateau this season as well.

This is the eighth time in the school's history the team has appeared in the NCAA tournament. They advanced to the Elite Eight in 2002 before losing to the University of Rochester in their last appearance.
