Girl Scouts honored with religious recognition award

Camaria Long and Molly McGrath, both Junior I Girl Scouts in Troop #461 of the Spencerport Service Unit, who attend the Church of the Epiphany in Gates, were recognized for earning the Brownie "God and Me" religious recognition award. Both girls completed the requirements for the "God & Me" award as Brownie III Girl Scouts in June 2003.

The two girl scouts were each honored at separate ceremonies. A formal Girl Scout Ceremony was held in January at which Camaria and Molly received their "God & Me" patch in front of their family and friends, as well as the family and friends of their sister Girl Scouts. On March 7, "Girl Scout Sunday," Camaria and Molly were recognized at the Church of the Epiphany where each received their "God & Me" pin and a signed certificate from the pastor. In addition to receiving the award, Camaria and Molly participated in the Girl Scout Sunday church services as ushers.

The religious recognitions programs are optional programs created by the various religious groups to encourage girls to grow stronger in their faith. The religious groups themselves have created all religious recognition programs, not the Girl Scouts of the U.S.A. The Girl Scouts of the U.S.A. recognizes these programs and allows the recognition insignia to be worn on the official Girl Scout uniform.
