Nick Leone knew at an early age that he was good with his hands and could operate machinery. Since he was 10, he had done farm chores with his grandfather before his school day even started, when other children his age were still in bed. When he was older he learned to drive heavy equipment and make repairs. more

Diary stories of Holocaust children on display
Hilton's Merton Williams Middle School students on the eighth grade Kappa 8 Team in studying the wars of the 20th century including the Holocaust of WWII, researched, wrote and created a museum of displays in the school's library. more

Holley students receive grant to study soil and water quality
A $10,000 Toyota Tapestry Grant is going to make it possible for hundreds of Holley science students to be involved in an exciting hands-on project entitled "A Canal Runs Through It." In this project, elementary, junior and senior high students will investigate water and soil quality issues and their impact on local waterways. Holley is one of 50 schools in the nation to receive the grant. more

Spencerport appoints new elementary principals
Spencerport Central School District has appointed two local school administrators as principals for the Leo Bernabi Elementary School and the Terry Taylor Elementary School. more

Taylor student receives honorable mention
Robert Macko, a fifth grader at Terry A. Taylor Elementary School in Spencerport, was awarded Honorable Mention in the "Letters About Literature National Reading and Writing Contest." He had to choose a book that inspired him and write the author a letter explaining why the book was inspiring. more

Hilton High School's Marisa Clark, right, guard for the Girls Basketball Team, was named "Birds Eye Foods Player of the Year" for Monroe County Division I this year. more

Hilton Cheerleaders take first place
The Hilton Varsity Cheerleading Team, coached by Laurie Miller, took first place in division I at the Monroe County Tournament. Karlie Donlon was named to First Team All County and Danielle Billiotti, Kristina Brizee and Rachel Schmerbeck were named to Second Team All County. more

Holley's Yacono with NASCAR
According to his mother, Betty Drennan, it all started when Andy Yacono scratched her Camaro and had to fix it. From there, he went to Alfred Tech, started painting cars and now he is the head foreman in the paint shop for defending NASCAR champion driver Matt Kenseth. more

Spencerport's Downey pursuing pro golf career
Last summer, Spencerport native Danielle Downey graduated from Auburn University and returned home to compete as an amateur in the Wegman's Rochester LPGA Tournament. Now the three-time New York State Amateur Champion has made the transition to her pro golf career official as she competes on the LPGA Futures Tour. more

One of the Brockport's Tri-County Youth Hockey (TCYH) teams won their League Championship this year. Tri-County's Squirt 1 hockey team won three tough playoff games (all in shoot-outs) to make it to the championship game. more
