Remember Mama this Mother's Day

This Mother's Day, hundreds of mothers in the Rochester area will be alone. Whether it is due to separation from their families or broken relationships, these women will not be taken out to dinner, showered with gifts, or even receive a phone call wishing them a Happy Mother's Day.

Volunteers of America will be holding its 14th annual "I Remember Mama" Mother's Day Brunch, to honor these women and let them know they are appreciated and remembered.

Every year Volunteers of America asks the community to help with this special event by making donations to the brunch. This year a donation of $27 will allow an elderly woman (who would otherwise be alone) to enjoy a special brunch as well as entertainment, a corsage and a gift. Volunteers of America will partner with local senior centers to identify women in the community who will benefit most from the event. This year, Volunteers of America hopes to invite at least 250 ladies to the brunch.

Donations to the brunch can be made in honor of a special loved one. Following the donation, Volunteers of America will send that special woman a card informing her that the gift has been made in her honor.

Individuals who would like to make a donation or learn more about this event can contact Volunteers of America at 647-1150 or pick up a flyer at any Rochester area Hallmark store.
