Volunteers sought for 2004 Lilac Festival

The annual Lilac Festival is just weeks away and volunteers of all ages (under 16 with parent) and interests are needed to staff the Greater Rochester Visitors Association (GRVA) information booths located throughout Highland Park during the festival. Hundreds of thousands of people stroll the park during this annual rite of spring. Many are visitors who may have questions about the area - and even Rochesterians often need some answers. It's a great opportunity for families to meet thousands of people and share all that Rochester has to offer.

Volunteers attend a one-hour training session to help them answer questions as diverse as: "How do I get to the ESL Lilac Stage?" to "Where can I get an ice cream like that person is eating?" and to acquaint themselves with the information books compiled by GRVA. Volunteers sign up for one or more four-hour shifts during the 10-day festival that is open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily. The festival runs from May 14 to 23.

In addition to a complimentary Lilac Festival T-shirt, volunteers come away with a new sense of pride in Rochester. Orientation sessions for Lilac Festival volunteers will be held in early May. Interested individuals are asked to call the GRVA at 279-8300.
