Brockport CROP WALK
sets goal of $10,000 for the hungry

On Sunday, May 2, walkers supporting the Brockport CROP WALK 2004 will start from the First Baptist Church, 124 Main Street, on a course covering over six miles on village streets. The event will raise funds for the Brockport Ecumenical Emergency Food Shelf and for the Church World Service.

The walk includes the "Golden Mile" option for those who wish to walk a shorter distance from the Baptist Church to the Sweden Senior Center and back.

The Brockport CROP WALK so far has eight Brockport churches actively involved: Church of the Nativity, Concordia Lutheran, First Baptist, First Presbyterian, Free Methodist, Newman Center, St. Luke's Episcopal, and United Methodist. They have agreed on a goal of $10,000 to be raised, about $1,500 over last year's proceeds.

This year, the Brockport United Methodist Church is taking the lead in organizing the event with the Reverend S. Thevanesan, pastor, and Holley resident Bruce Rex as co-chairpersons. Rex is contacting additional churches to become involved. Each church needs one person to recruit walkers who will solicit pledges in advance of the race. Brockport Mayor Jo Matela is honorary chairperson of the event. She has officially proclaimed May 2 as "Crop Walk Day in the Village of Brockport."

Proceeds aid the Brockport Ecumenical Food Shelf and the Church World Service to relieve hunger around the world.

The registration for the walk is at 1 p.m., the walk begins at 1:30 p.m.

Those interested in participating can get information from participating churches or phone Bruce Rex 585-638-8844 to walk, sponsor a walker, or to make a donation.
