Brockport firefighters receive NYS grant

NYS Assemblyman Bill Reilich recently presented the Brockport Fire Department with a state grant sponsored by his office to continue the upgrade to the Hurst Rescue tool that was initiated with the funds donated by BISCO earlier this year. Assemblyman Reilich expressed his appreciation to the volunteers for the work they do.

The Hurst tool was originally purchased by the department in the mid seventies, and many of the components were worn and in need of replacement. BISCO named the department and the safety of the community as its focus during the Arts Festival last year. Assemblyman Reilich was receptive and very supportive in helping to secure funds from the state to complete this equipment upgrade.

The BISCO grant totaling over $8,000 allowed for the purchase of a new set of Spreaders and associated tools needed. The NYS grant of $3,500 provided the funds needed for the new cutting tool. Both tools are lighter, more efficient and provide greater strength in spreading and cutting vehicles to meet or exceed the rescue challenges found in working with today's vehicles, according to department officials.
