Spencerport village budget approved

On Wednesday, April ,7 a handful of Spencerport village residents attended a public hearing concerning the proposed budget for Spencerport. Mayor Ted Walker addressed the room with a power point presentation, going over each section of the budget and explaining reasons for the increase and answering questions.

As previously reported, Spencerport Village residents will see an increase from $1.88 per $1,000 of assessed value to $2.25 beginning with the new budget year, June 1, 2004 and ending May 31, 2005. Residents will also see an increase in their sewer usage bill.

The village budget is divided into three portions, the General Fund, the Sewer Fund, and the Electric Fund. All three funds combine to come up with a proposed budget of $5.3 million.

Walker said the village administration will use some of the reserve balances that have been unapplied for several years in various funds and apply this money to the new streets and pavements fund. This will help the village pay cash for the upcoming improvements needed on village streets as outlined in an article in the March 29 issues of the Suburban News.

There were no questions from the audience regarding the budget and no opposition. The proposed budget and increases were approved and the hearing was closed.
