Tracy Apeland 2004 USAG Level 9 Region medal winner


Bright Raven brings home
regional and compulsory awards

Bright Raven gymnast Tracy Apeland of Chili earned two medals at the USA Gymnastics Level 9 Region 6 Championships held in Cambridge, Massachusetts at MIT April 4. The 17-year-old Churchville-Chili senior qualified to represent New York and compete among top gymnasts from New England by earning a high all around score at the New York State Championships last month. At Regionals, Apeland placed tenth in two events: vaulting (8.80) and balance beam (8.85).

The Bright Raven Gymnastics compulsory teams traveled to Elmira April 4 to compete in the 2004 Spring Spectacular hosted by Elmira Gymnastics Club, bringing home three team banners and many individual awards.

The Level 6 team finished in second place with Erin Kolb of Chili capturing first place on the uneven parallel bars (9.50), second place on balance beam (8.75), third place in floor exercise (9.025) and second place all around (35.275). Kara Golis of Churchville took second on floor (9.20) and third on vault (8.50). Maura Wojak of Chili placed third on beam (8.70). Allison Grove of Chili earned first place on vault (8.70) and third on bars (9.20). Emily Gutknecht of Rochester contributed to the team effort with strong performances on floor (8.95) and vault (8.25).

Bright Raven's Level 5 team earned third place. In the Junior division, Emily Thomas of Conesus took third place all around (35.20). In the Senior division, Amanda Clapper of Spencerport finished third all around (33.90), second on bars (9.30) and third on vault (8.15). Shannon Fitzgerald of Chili earned third place on floor (8.70). Amber Harewood of Chili and Amanda Goldfischer of Greece aided the Level 5 team earning all around scores of 35.3 and 31.675, respectively.

Bright Raven's Level 4 team finished in fourth place. Competing in the Senior division, Nicole Bonferraro of Brockport captured first place in vault (9.45), third place on bars (9.10) and second all around (36.60). In the same division, Lindsay Plucknette of Greece took first place on floor (9.325) and second on vault (9.30). In the Intermediate division, Kristina Nupp of Churchville took first place in floor exercise (9.55) and Haley Cunningham of Leroy was third on floor (9.30). Lauren Ciranni and Amanda Kubitz of Spencerport, Carly King of Churchville, Rachel Davis of North Chili, Mary Wittman and Danielle Adam of Greece, Meghan Gutknecht of Rochester, Megan Saraceni and Leah Ferreri of Chili, Jackie Bowser of Brockport, Melissa Rombola of Spencerport and Caterina Phichith of Gates also contributed to the Bright Raven Level 4 team effort.
