Northern Lights District
to honor outstanding scout leaders

At its Tenth Anniversary Awards Dinner to be held on May 5 at The Brook House in Elmridge Plaza, Greece, Northern Lights District will honor a number of its scouters for their continuing service to youth.

Selected as its Cub Scout Leader of the Year is former Cubmaster (now Unit Commissioner) James Enright of Harvey Noone Post, American Legion Pack 156 of Churchville. Named as Boy Scout Leader of the Year is Scoutmaster David Young of Messiah Lutheran Church Troop 320 of Greece. Commissioners of the Year are Cub Scout Leader Round Table Commissioner David Azzario and Unit Commissioner James Kunkel, both of Greece.

The following have been named as Unit Scouters of the Year by their respective packs or troops: Committee members Joanne Acito of John Knox Presbyterian Church Troop 197, Assistant Scoutmaster and Charter Organization Representative Nancy Jones of St. Helen's Roman Catholic Church Troop 157, Assistant Scoutmaster Thomas Leahy of Parkminster Presbyterian Church Troop 258, Assistant Cubmaster Sue Newman of Autumn Lane Elementary School Pack 282, Cubmaster Rick Paufre of Parkland School Pack 175, Charter Organization Representative Jose Santiago of Parish Council of St. Mark's Church Troop 278, Scoutmaster Elmer Smith of Bethany Presbyterian Church Troop 240, and Committee member Amy Young of St. Helen's Roman Catholic Church Pack 157.

Announcement also will be made of the Northern Lights District Award of Merit recipients, honoring five local Scout leaders for their noteworthy service to youth through leadership of western Monroe County Scout units. Presentations will be made at the district's annual meeting on May 17 at the RIT Convention Center. They are: Committee chairman James Briggs of Parish Council of St. Mark's Church Troop 278, James Enright, Scoutmaster Daniel Sillick of St. Lawrence Roman Catholic Church Troop 277, Assistant Scoutmaster Joseph Steehler of John Knox Presbyterian Church Troop 197, and David Young.

Northern Lights District serves youth in all Monroe County towns west of the Genesee and the Charlotte area of Rochester, and was formed by the consolidation of the former Keystone and North Star Districts in 1994.
