Rough start for Bees in softball

Byron-Bergen dropped their first game of the season 28-0 to Oakfield-Alabama with just six varsity players and four starters in the lineup due to spring break. Junior Mandy Taylor was the only Bee to reach base with a second inning single. She stole second and took third when the catcher's throw went into center field, but was left stranded.

Oakfield-Alabama pitchers Mary Bostwick and Stephanie Esten recorded eleven strikeouts over the five-inning game. The Hornets sent 16 batters to the plate in the third inning.

Byron-Bergen, coming off a 5-10 campaign last season, is looking to senior third baseman Dana DeSario, senior first baseman Val Bezon and senior second baseman Jennale Menzie for leadership this year.

Juniors Kris Lovett and RayLyn Maher will share the pitching duties and freshman Alyssa D'Errico is being counted on for her strong arm in center field.
