Village of Brockport officials approved a budget for fiscal year 2004-2005 that carries with it a 7.65 percent tax hike, and with it a tax rate of $8.72 per $1,000 of assessed value. more

Fundraiser aids local leukemia patient
Kevin McCorry is a 12 year old Spencerport Cosgrove Middle School student. He was diagnosed with leukemia in October 2001 and underwent a rigorous two-year treatment program. In December 2003, Kevin completed treatments and was declared cancer-free. Nine short weeks later, his cancer returned. more

Medicare Drug Card enrollment begins
Enrollment in the new Medicare Prescription Drug Discount Card program and the Transitional Assistance Program will begin on May 3. The program will take effect on June 1. This temporary prescription drug benefit will provide help to seniors with their prescriptions until the new drug benefit program begins in January 2006. more

Some Sweden residents to get reassessment notices
Property owners in Sweden should be receiving their new assessment updates within the next two weeks. "We are working hard to finalize the figures for this year's roll," said Sweden Town Assessor Alan S. Bader. more

Spencerport district decreases projected tax rate increase
According to a press release submitted by the district, as a result of revised property assessment figures from town assessors, Spencerport Central School District has reduced its estimated tax rate increase. The district is now projecting a tax rate increase of less than one percent (.85%) - the lowest rate increase in eight years. Originally, the district expected a 3.24 percent increase. more

As a labor floor nurse, Karen Przybyszewski of Brockport has what she calls a "real career." And although she finds nursing incredibly satisfying, she really loves her "fun career," her part-time job as a demonstrator showing others how to make homemade cards and gifts using rubber stamps, special papers, and a little creativity. more

in area All County music festivals
The following student musicians at Brockport Central School District were selected to participate in several area All County Music Festivals last month. Students were selected based on an audition in January and be recommendation. more

Fourth graders build birdhouses
As a community service project, the fourth graders at St. John the Evangelist School in Spencerport decided to make two birdhouses for the school yard. They wanted their project to help the environment, so they decided to help the wildlife. more

Hilton schools offer Meet the Candidates Night May 5
Three positions on the Hilton Board of Education will be filled at the May 18 Budget Vote and Board Election: two three-year terms of David Fisher and Ted Welch and one three-year term which is currently being filled by appointee Steve Beauvais following the resignation of Dale Beehler from the board in July 2003. more

Kendall students raise $11,540
for American Heart Association

Kendall Elementary students had their best year ever as participants in the Jump Rope for Heart and Hoops for Heart events raising $11,540 for the American Heart Association's research and programs. Kendall is the first school district in Orleans County to participate in Jump Rope for Heart. Over the past 23 years, students have raised $185,353. more

Kendall musicians go to All County
Eighteen Kendall Senior High Band students were commended by their instructor, Scott Bradley, for their performance in the Orleans All County Music Festival, which was held in Kendall. more

Spencerport hosts world premiere concert
The audience at the Totally TCP Concert will hear music like it's never been played before - literally. That's because the concert, part of the federally funded "Composers for Kids" program and The Commission Project, features the original compositions of five area composers who have been working with music students at five local schools. more

St. John the Evangelist third graders journey to Japan
The third grade at St. John's School in Spencerport has been working on a social studies curriculum which focuses on learning about communities around the world. more

Chili Golden Agers set May agenda
In addition to dinner, 85 seniors who attended the Golden Agers Spring Dinner in April received copies of the 2004 Members Directory and a list of the remaining social events for the year. Copies will be available at the next meeting, scheduled for May 4 at the Chili Senior Center at 1 p.m. more

Chili Senior Center programs
Fundraiser - The Chili Senior Center is selling the Passport to Savings book for the Spirit of Ontario fast ferry. The book, which includes numerous discounts for Rochester and Toronto, may be purchased for $25. The boarding pass, which is included in the book, can be redeemed for $25 off any trip fare (or $28 off an adult foot passenger fare). The books are available to the community.
