Clarkson looks into fire alarms for courthouse

A recent inspection of the fire alarm system at Clarkson's courthouse showed that it was beyond repair, likely because of a lightning strike.

Building Inspector Doug Scarson reported to the board that the fire alarm system would need complete replacement. "Right now it's not a monitored system and it only covers the first floor of the courthouse," he reported at the April 27 board meeting.

Scarson received bids from ADT and West Fire Systems for $5,858 and $5,225, respectively, to equip the building with an alarm system. Board members suggested giving Doyle Security Systems until the next board meeting to prepare an estimate for the system before they proceeded. Doyle supplies fire and alarm system monitoring for the town's other buildings.

In other matters, the board heard from Eagle Scout Brian Duff on his plans to construct a pavilion as his Eagle project. The pavilion would be a 30 by 30 foot structure and would be located in the area where Clarkson's Good Neighbor Day celebrations are held. The construction by Duff and his volunteers would begin the third weekend in September.
