Jeremy Gardner of Brockport won first place in the upper division of the 13th Annual Brockport Mathematics Competition at SUNY Brockport.

The competition tests knowledge as well as the capacity for creative thinking.


Joseph Jacobs, son of Scott and Doreen Jacobs of Spencerport, and a sophomore studying civil engineering at Clarkson University, was honored with the Vern Clute Memorial Academic Achievement Award.

This award of $100 is presented to a Native American student who at the end of the first semester of their sophomore year has the highest academic average.


Matthew J. Lachman, fiancée of Victoria Tenny of Hilton, and son of James Lachman of West Sweden Road, Brockport, and Judy Lightoak of Hilton, was named a 2003-2004 Outstanding Undergraduate Scholar at Rochester Institute of Technology.

He graduated from Hilton High School and earned an AS in computer science at Monroe Community College before transferring to RIT's computer science program in RIT's B. Thomas Golisano College of Computing and Information Sciences. Lachman works at Thomson-West, Solutions Development and is a member of Golden Key International, Phi Theta Kappa and national honor societies.

In high school, Lachman was selected to sing in the MENC All-Eastern Honors Ensemble at Carnegie Hall and the NYSSMA All-State Honors Ensemble at the Eastman Theater and is now a member of the RIT Singers.

Outstanding Undergraduate Scholarship Awards are presented to students who have maintained a minimum average of 3.85 out of a possible 4.0 and completed at least 125 quarter credit hours of study. Selection is also based on other factors complementing academic achievement, such as creative work, service on student committees, civic activities, employment and independent research.


Michael Cole, Brockport, earned two third-place ribbons for his entries, a "Swan Pondering Love" ice sculpture and a five-course meal, in the recent 2004 Culinary Arts Exposition competition at Alfred State College's School of Applied Technology Campus, Wellsville. Cole, a culinary arts senior, is the son of Willard Cole. He is a 2002 graduate of Holley High School.

Cole has served as the Top Hat Club (culinary honor society) president and vice president, and as an Admissions tour guide. He is a member of Sigma Tau Epsilon, the local chapter of the National Vocational Technical Honor Society. He has been named to the dean's list.


Troy Bridges, Greenleaf Meadows, Rochester, has graduated from Rochester Institute of Technology with a bachelor's degree in accounting. He studied in RIT's School of Business.

Bridges is the son of Mark and Sherry Bridges of Spencerport and a 1993 graduate of Spencerport High School.


Meredith Lewis, daughter of Thomas and Marjorie Lewis, Canal Road, Spencerport, has been named to the dean's list at New York University Gallatin School for both fall and spring semesters of her freshman year. She is a 2003 graduate of Brockport High School.

Lewis is studying public relations, music management and communications and currently is working as an intern at a public relations firm in New York City.

Elizabeth A. VanDeusen, a resident of Adams Basin, was named to the dean's list for the spring semester at Alfred University. She is a senior in the School of Art and Design. Students must earn at least a 3.3 grade point average to qualify for dean's list.

VanDeusen is an Art and Design major at Alfred University.

A graduate of Brockport High School, Van Deusen is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William R. Van Deusen of Adams Basin.


Jay Gousman, Manitou Beach Road, Hilton, received a bachelor of science degree in mechanical engineering from the College of Engineering at Virginia Tech in ceremonies held May 14.

Approximately 1,560 undergraduate, graduate and specialist degrees were awarded to University of Dayton students on Sunday, May 2.

Among area residents graduating were:

  • Michelle L. McAndrews, School of Education & Allied Professions, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Michael McAndrews, Clark Street, Spencerport.
  • Christopher McKnight, School of Engineering, mechanical engineering, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Frederick McKnight, Coleman Avenue, Spencerport.

Jamie Vendetti has been promoted to Senior Accountant in the Assurance Department at Rotenberg & Co., LLP. She is responsible for the performance and direction of audit engagements for the firm and for training junior staff on audit procedures, standards, and other technical issues. Vendetti's client-base includes clients with multiple entities and related parties, primarily in the hotel, multi-family, and health care industries. She interacts with clients and facilitates workflow to ensure business is completed in a timely fashion.


Joan Greeno, Associate Broker of Nothnagle Realtor's Chili/Ogden Office, was presented with the Sales Agent of the Month Award from Bob Malone, branch manager. She had approximately two million dollars in sales for the month of April 2004.

Greeno is a member of the Greater Rochester Association of Realtors (GRAR) and the Rochester-area Women's Council of Realtors (WCR). During her real estate career, Greeno has received numerous other awards, including GRAR's Sales Master and Sales Master Gold awards, WCR's Pinnacle Award for outstanding commitment and service, and Nothnagle's coveted "Top 25" award. Joan also served as manager of the Chili-Ogden office during the mid 90s.

She resides in North Chili with her husband, Larry, vice president for Planned Giving at Roberts Wesleyan College. They have four grown children and seven grandchildren.


Army Pvt. Kevin C. Garrett has graduated from the power-generation equipment repairer advanced individual training (AIT) course at Aberdeen Proving Ground, Aberdeen, Maryland.

Garrett is the son of Kathy L. Stevenson of Attridge Road, Churchville and graduated from Churchville-Chili High School.
