Hot Shots in Brockport

The Conservation Club of Brockport has a 22 cal. Rifle Team (Sporterifle League), which competes in the New York State Rifle and Pistol Association (NYSRPA). Every year the teams have 21 matches between other clubs throughout New York state and at the end of the year they meet and have a Shoot-off. There are seven classifications into which individuals are placed according to their shooting averages. For the 2003-2004 season, which runs from September to April, the Brockport teams were competitors in almost every class.

The annual Sporterifle meeting and banquet was held at the Conservation Club of Brockport on May 8 and awards were presented to Charm Sercu for High Shoot-off Woman and High NYS Women shooter with a score of 283; Don Swanger for High Sharpshooter average 276; Nick Colucci for High Marksman NYS with a 271; Courtney Forquell for High Sub-rifleman and High NYS Sub-rifleman with a 244 score; Patricia Raimondi for High Female Senior Shooter with a 239. The Brockport Team won the High Team award for the Mohawk League and received an engraved plaque with all the team members names - Don Swanger, Terry Swanger, Kathy Swanger, Charm Sercu, Bob May, Pat Raimondi, John Smith, Nick Colucci, Dan Forquell, Courtney Forquell, Kenny Forquell, Ron Jewell Jr., Jeff Maier, Stephan Lybik, Lisa Lybik, Cody Smith and Ron Root.

Both the junior team for those 12 to 18 and the adult team is looking for new shooters to join the 2004-2005 season. Sporterifle is an individual sport and a team sport and is a family activity. Indoor target shooting such as the Sporterifle leagues can be low cost, fun, competitive and a great way to learn gun safety. Junior shooters do have to have parental permission to join.
