Brockport Farmers Market opens June 20

More than 15 local area farmers have signed up to participate in the Brockport Farmers Market. They'll be offering the best in New York grown produce, picked fresh off the farm each week. And each week will feature an entertainment or activity by local groups. On Father's Day, June 20, the Brockport Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary will host a strawberry festival in conjunction with the market.

Village of Brockport Trustees recently voted unanimously to appoint Brockport resident Carrie Maziarz manager of the new Brockport Farmers Market. Spearheading the development of the market in tandem with Village of Brockport Economic Development Director, Scott Winner, Maziarz worked as an intern with the village through her course work at SUNY College at Brockport, spending hours researching, organizing, and implementing the plans. "I believe in Brockport's potential and the market is a perfect fit with the needs and nature of this community," said Maziarz.

Many merchants will be participating by opening early to take advantage of the crowds of local residents and visitors. "I want to support the community. The more local merchants get involved to support the idea the better. It's good exposure for the products and services available in our village for visitors" said Jimmy Z., proprietor of the Main Street eatery that goes by the same name. Jimmy Zs will have a booth at the market.

"We're very excited about the Brockport Farm Market. We're involved because we own a market not too far from Brockport and it will help us to promote our market too," said Laura Partyka, of Partyka Farms in Kendall. "We sell produce to Ryan's Big M and Wegmans. They've been very good to us, and this offers us another good place to do business." Partyka's will have two booths at the market.

Located on Market Street from Main Street to Water Street, the hours of operation for the Market will be 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sundays. Market Street will be closed between Main and Water Streets from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m. The market will run each Sunday from June 20 to October 31 except for Sunday, August 15 during the Brockport Art festival.
