Sweden's Town Park sees lots of activities

The cries of "play ball" were heard as 25 softball teams made their way to Sweden's Town Park over the weekend of June 5-6. The park also hosted a full soccer schedule.

"The lawns look excellent," Councilperson Rob Carges said. "It's exciting to see the fields that full."

The Town Park will see the construction of a concession stand this season, the installation of a water main that will serve the park, construction of a gravel parking lot and irrigation system. Construction plans for 2004 also include the extension of the John Henion Parkway and the installation of benches and a fence at the skate park.

Sweden officials, at their regular June 8 meeting, voted to charge a $2 per car fee for parking at the town park during an upcoming tournament where there will be numerous out of town teams attending. They will then decide the future of park fees for vehicles. The fee will help offset employee wages and park upkeep.

In other matters the board:

  • Heard from Councilperson Patricia Connors that the five member committee charged with hiring a new recreation director have already interviewed two candidates. The committee has a field of five candidates to choose from and hopes to wrap up interviews soon.
  • Heard from Supervisor Nat Lester that he had been asked by Helen Smagorinsky of the Village of Brockport Arts Aesthetics Committee to paint an object and donate it to the "Stone Soup" Auction.
