Elementary students
wrap up a year of community service

The Caring Kids Club at Brockport's Ginther School celebrated a year of giving back to others through community service. More than 600 kindergarten and first-graders marched to the high school waving flags and red, white and blue streamers. The theme of the day was "You're A Grand Old Flag."

At the high school the children sang "God Bless America," "Yankee Doodle," "Grand Old Flag," and "My Country Tis of Thee." Attendance Clerk and Nurse's Aide Sue Westcott, dressed up as the "I-Care Cat," and cheered on the children. Parent volunteers Sue Liebe, Paula Liucci, Diane Latragna and Lori Heckleman, were honored guests. They led the parade in decorated golf carts and were given gifts of appreciation for their help.

Every Friday throughout the year, two students were selected from each class to participate in Caring Kids Club activities. The club is one way that the school uses a value system to reward students who are doing good deeds in their classrooms and are following the "I Care" rules. Community Service Projects students worked on throughout the year included: making posters and decorating boxes for a food drive to benefit the Ronald McDonald House, making cards for residents at the Landing and Episcopal Home, decorating bags to welcome new students, making Valentines for veterans and cards for shut-ins.
