Parma baseball fields a big hit

The Town of Parma baseball and softball diamonds at Parma Town Park have a new look thanks to the Parma Town Board focus with renovating each of the eight ballfields. Work began this spring under the direction of the Parks Department with the renovation of one backstop, the installation of safety bench fences on all eight fields, relocating two fields within the Park and Athletic Complex, and constructing a homerun fence on one of the premier fields. Later this fall the project will concentrate on field drainage, installing concrete bench pads, resurfacing the dirt infields, and bringing electric to most backstops.

Director of Recreation Steve Fowler estimated over 600 individuals are involved with the municipal baseball and softball programs each season. "Even though a huge field maintenance commitment is placed on the Parks Department annually, this is the first time in over a decade for a renovation project of this size and financial commitment. The initial feedback from program participants and their parents on our ballfield work has been very positive," Fowler said.
