Victorian music program
scheduled for Cobblestone Church

A program of Victorian music will be presented in the historic Cobblestone Church in Childs on Thursday, July 15 at 7:30 p.m. At that time a recently restored square grand piano (circa 1860) will be played and dedicated to the memory of Pat Carr (1904-2003). As part of the program, the 1904 Estey reed organ will also be heard.

In September of 2003, Mrs. Pat Carr of Albion donated to the Cobblestone Museum Church the old square grand piano. Carr passed away in December 2003 before the piano was in playable condition. It was built by the New England Piano Co. sometime around 1860 and has massive legs with bunches of grapes and grape leaves hand carved on them. Pianos of this kind were intended for use in the home parlor setting and were designed so they would fit in better than the standard grand. The sound is therefore not as loud or bold as from a Steinway grand piano.

The Cobblestone Church is located on Route 104 in Childs.
