Dr. Erica Smith graduated in May from Butler University in Indianapolis, Indiana with a doctor of pharmacy degree. She graduated with high honors from the College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences and was on the dean's list for the fall and spring semesters. Smith is a member of the national Rho Chi Honorary Pharmacy Society whose membership is limited to the top 20 percent of each class. She has been accepted into the clinical pharmacy residency program at the University of Rochester Medical Center, Strong Memorial Hospital. A 1998 graduate of Brockport High School, she is the daughter of Char and Todd Smith of Clarkson.


Erin Barrell of Hilton has graduated from Binghamton University. Barrell earned a bachelor of science degree.


Ann Bliss, daughter of Terry and Cookie Bliss of Kent, has been named to the spring dean's list at the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts in North Adams, Massachusetts. A 2003 graduate of Kendall High School, Bliss is a freshman majoring in English.


Brendan Gaesser, son of Amy Gaesser of Kendall and Jim Gaesser of Letchworth, has been named to the spring dean's list at the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts in North Adams, Massachusetts. Gaesser, a 2003 graduate of Kendall High School, is a freshman majoring in psychology.


Brandson G. Steinorth, son of Rob and Sheila Steinorth of Hilton, has graduated cum laude from Ithaca College, earning a degree in secondary education. He has accepted an eighth grade social studies position at Newfield Central School District.


Stephanie Wolfe, of Spencerport, has been named to the dean's list at Columbia College. She is a graduate of Spencerport High School.


Katie Sereika a Hilton resident and recent graduate of Bishop Kearney High School, has received a $500 scholarship from Pittsford Musicals, Inc. She has been recognized by her high school teachers for her participation and accomplishments in the performing arts. In the fall, she will be attending SUNY Fredonia, where she hopes to continue studying musical theatre and voice.


Three area high school students were recently presented with the George H. Scheible Memorial Printing Award presented annually by the Flower City Printing Company of Rochester. Recipients of the award were Matt MacLean, a junior at Greece Arcadia High; Charles Hardy, a graduating senior at Hilton High School; and graduating senior Kieran Redmond of BOCES 2. Each was given a $250 stipend and an engraved plaque.


The United States Achievement Academy announces that Emily Knight from Spencerport, has been named an All-American Scholar. Knight, who attends Spencerport High School, will appear in the All-American Scholar Yearbook, which is published nationally.

She is the daughter of Joseph and Lynne Knight from Spencerport. Her grandparents are Jane and Harold Knight from Geneva and Penny Turco from Ithaca.


Shirley Sawyer, Churchville, has been named to the dean's list for the fall, winter and spring quarter at Rochester Institute of Technology A first-year student in RIT's School of Art, Sawyer is studying graphic design.

She is the daughter of Karen and Curt Sawyer and granddaughter of Roger and Patricia Sawyer of Gates. Sawyer is a 2003 graduate of Churchville-Chili High School.


Christine Schott, daughter of Donna and Gregory Schott of Gates Chili, has won an appointment to the A.I.M. (Academy Introductory Mission) Program at the United States Coast Guard Academy. Schott's participation in the AIM program was sponsored by the Rochester area Coast Guard Auxiliary, the civilian volunteer arm of the United States Coast Guard.

Schott was selected out of approximately 2500 applications nation-wide to fill one of 500 openings for a week to experience life at a military college.

Her selection was based on academic, athletic and community service involvements and achievements. She attends Gates Chili High School and will be entering her senior year in the fall.


Amanda Thompson has been named to the spring semester dean's list at the SUNY College at Oswego. A 2001 graduate of Brockport High School, she is the daughter of Neil Thompson and Connie and Jim Graves. Thompson will be a senior at Oswego this fall, pursuing a degree in elementary education. She also plays on the SUNY Oswego softball team.


Kara Placito, of Ogden, a student at SUNY Fredonia, has completed her third year of study in adolescence, middle childhood education and English. She was also named to the spring 2004 dean's list. Placito is the daughter of JoAnne and Chuck Placito.


Darren J. Lipomi, of Hilton, has been named to the dean's list at Boston University for the spring semester.

Thornton R. Ferrell IV, son of Dick and Charlene Ferrell of Hilton, has been named to the spring 2004 dean's list at St. John Fisher College, Rochester. Ferrell, a senior, is a sports studies major.


Ronald S. Slater of Hilton has received a $2,000 SUNY Oswego merit scholarship. The award recognizes past academic achievement and potential for success.

Slater has reserved a place in the incoming freshman class for the fall semester.


More than 800 four- and two-year degree candidates received diplomas from Alfred State College this spring. Students from this area include:

Daemen College has announced its dean's list students for the spring 2004 semester. Students from this area are:

  • From Brockport: Wendy Slattery, who is pursuing a degree in physician assistant/health science.
  • From Spencerport: Katie O'Brien, who is majoring in child and special education and Benjamin Plucknette, a physical therapy/natural science major.

Civilian Latoya A. Dunbar, daughter of Zachary B. Dunbar of Hilton, participated in the U.S. Naval Academy's week-long summer seminar program in Annapolis, Maryland.

During the program, Dunbar was introduced to academy life through a regimen of academics, physical training, intramural sports, sailing and seamanship, as well as leadership training and social activities. Dunbar is a student at Hilton High School.
