Hatchery stocks yellow perch for children's fishing

The Fish Hatchery at Powder Mills Park has stocked the pond that borders Courduroy Road with hundreds of yellow perch just right for children who want to learn to fish. The youth fishing program will start this weekend between the hours of 9 a.m. and noon.

Yellow perch are relatively easy to catch and are often one of the first fish caught by youngsters and beginners. They range in length from six to 12 inches.

Fishing will be restricted to children ten years of age and younger during designated times and only when hatchery staff are on duty. Children interested in participating must register at the hatchery building prior to fishing.
