Leslie A. Brighton, a resident of North Chili, received a bachelor of fine arts degree in art & design from the School of Art and Design at Alfred University during commencement exercises May 15 at McLane Center on the AU campus.

Brighton is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Brighton of North Chili. She is a graduate of Churchville-Chili Senior High.


Jeffrey C. Povelaites, a resident of Rochester, received a bachelor of science degree cum laude in ceramic engineering from the School of Engineering at Alfred University during commencement exercises May 15 at McLane Center on the AU campus.

Povelaites is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Povelaites of Rochester and a graduate of Aquinas Institute of Rochester.


Spencerport resident Carolyn Maxim was elected as the BSW (Baccalaureate Social Work) Student Representative to the National Association of Social Workers New York State Chapter's (NASW-NYS) Board of Directors. Maxim, a former paralegal, is currently a full time student at Nazareth College where she is majoring in social work. Maxim plans to utilize her role on the board to "strengthen the social work profession's advocacy efforts on behalf of the 'voiceless' members of our society."

Maxim is also a board member of HCR Cares (Health Care Resources), a not-for-profit organization that advocates for healthy, independent living of the elderly and she facilitates a support group for Toughlove® international.


David Snowden, a graduate of Spencerport High School who played basketball and football in high school, participated in the Eddie Meath All Star Game on August 1.


Ian Potter, a graduate of Churchville-Chili High School, participated in the Eddie Meath All Star Game on August 1. In high school Potter played soccer and football. His individual statistics include making 100 percent on extra points, longest field goal (40 yards), 47 catches, 691 yards and seven touchdowns. He will be attending Alfred State in the fall.


Melissa M. Trabold, who last studied at Monroe Community College, and Kathleen R. Larkin, who last studied at Niagara University, will be transferring to SUNY Oswego for fall classes. Larkin and Trabold are both from Hilton.


Rich Nelson, certified arborist and manager of One Step Tree & Lawn Care's Tree Division, has written an article for the August issue of Grounds Maintenance. The article covered tree diseases and prevention for the national green industry trade publication which is written for tree and lawn care professionals.

Nelson has been with One Step for 13 years and oversees shrub and tree care.


Leslie A. Morey has been awarded a graduate assistantship from the athletic department at Georgia Southern University in Statesboro, Georgia. She will pursue a masters degree in sports management this fall.

Morey attended St. Bonaventure University, graduating with a bachelor of science degree in physical education.

She graduated from Kendall Central School and is the daughter of Linda and George Morey of Hamlin.


Kelly E. Cholewa daughter of Bestram and Nancy Cholewa, of Spencerport, has enrolled in the College of Engineering at Ohio Northern University for the 2004-05 school year. She will major in civil engineering. At Spencerport High School, Cholewa was active in Spanish Club, Math League, dance and National Honor Society. She also received the Rochester Volunteer Award and the 21st Century Leadership Award.


Gretchen Marie Zyla graduated from SUNY Brockport earning a bachelor of science degree in health sciences. Zyla is the daughter of Andrew and Marybeth Zyla of Westminster, Maryland. She resides in Spencerport and is employed by The Threshold of Rochester.


Nicholas Falco, a 2001 graduate of Churchville-Chili High School, has received a Ralph F. Theuer Scholarship for the 2004/2005 academic year. Falco was also nominated to "Who's Who Among Students in American Colleges & Universities," has been elected President of Student Affiliates American Chemical Society at the University at Buffalo for the 2004/2005 academic year, and earned dean's list honors for the spring semester. Falco is entering his senior year at the University at Buffalo where he is a University Honors Program student majoring in chemistry.

He is the son of Cathy and Gene Falco of Robbin Crescent in Ogden.


The University of Buffalo has announced its dean's list students for the fall 2003 semester.
