Josh Osgood, Dan Osgood, Mark Richardson, Kyle Lovering, Andrew Lovering, Tim Buckley and Corey O'Brien show off their finished programmed inventions.

Testing, testing. Corey O'Brien tests his robot for sensor identification.

Churchville-Chili JHS students explore Robotics at RIT

Students traded summer vacation time to spend time in the college classroom learning about robotics. Rochester Institute of Technology sponsored "robo" workshops for students to build, program and compete in team–based competition projects with robots. Students developed an understanding for the rudiment of the Lego Mindstorm System and constructed robots using a robotics invention system that utilized a programmable microcomputer that acted as the brain of their inventions. Using a PC and an RCX microcomputer, the students learned to program and control the behavior of an infinite number of robotic inventions - from a light-sensitive intruder alarm, elite sensors, programmed music - to an undercover robot that can follow a trail, move around obstacles and even duck into dark corners.
