Changes made in Brockport
district building administrators

Brockport Central School District will start off the school year with new leadership in some of its schools due to a retirement and realignment of staff.

At the Barclay School, Principal Gail Zimmerli will retire August 1. Zimmerli was principal at the school for two years and assistant principal for four years prior. These positions capped her 25-year career in the district. Rhonda Steffen, formerly assistant principal at Barclay, has been appointed to the principal position effective August 1. Steffen began at the Barclay School in 1984 as a third grade teacher before becoming a fifth grade teacher at the Hill School and later an Instructional Specialist. Steffen became assistant principal at Barclay in 2002.

At the Ginther School, Principal Robin Masling, recently accepted a position as Coordinator of Professional Development in the Office for Instruction. This position will allow Assistant Superintendent of Instruction and Personnel Dr. Robert Conrad to dedicate most of his time to personnel and will restructure extra instructional duties among Conrad and Director of Curriculum and Professional Development Michelle Turner. Turner will work with Masling to achieve the Professional Development Plan and Board of Education goals. Masling has been with the district since 1998, first as Ginther School Assistant Principal and then as the principal.

George Barsema, Assistant Principal at the Middle School for 12 years, filled the vacant assistant principal position at the Hill School, formerly held by Monica Macaluso. Macaluso recently started a principalship with the Spencerport Central School District.

Middle School Principal Ann Sweeting is returning to her roots in primary grades as the new principal of Ginther. Sweeting and Ginther Assistant Principal Rosemary Custer will work together once again. Custer taught first grade in the Spencerport School District, where Sweeting was principal prior to coming to Brockport. Sweeting has been Middle School Principal for five years. Over a span of 19 years, she has served in several capacities at BCSD.

Rob Banzer, assistant principal at the High School, will be the new principal at the Middle School. Banzer began his career at BCSD as a high school social studies teacher in 1994 before becoming assistant principal in 2001.
