Making the Great Loop
It turns out that one great loop for Paul and Jean Miller is just another small step in their amazing journey together. The Churchville couple joined the ranks of other brave "Loopers" around the country by spending the last year on a houseboat traveling the nearly 6,000 mile loop, cutting their trip just 700 miles short when their boat needed repair in Delaware. more

New York apple growers predict above average harvest
The New York Apple Association (NYAA) announced that the predicted New York state apple crop in 2004 will be 26.5 million bushels, a harvest above the state's crop average and nearly on par with last year's vintage crop. "We're looking at the second year in a row of a big, quality apple crop in New York," said Jim Allen, NYAA president. "The fruit this year again looks terrific." more

Snowmobile trail grant could aid local communities
According to State Assemblyman Bill Reilich (R,C,I-Greece), a grant administered by the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation (OPRHP), establishes a mechanism for allocating funds to local government sponsors that engage in the development and maintenance of snowmobile trails designated as part of the state snowmobile trail system. more

Holley Library announces top readers
The Community Free Library's winners for the 2004 New York State Summer Reading Program have been announced. This year's theme was "New York, Read, White and Blue." There were 79 participants who read a total of 837 books. The program at the Holley Library ran from June 30 through July 27. more

BOCES 2 appoints interim superintendent
Dr. Clark J. Godshall, district superintendent and chief executive officer of the Orleans-Niagara BOCES, was appointed by Commissioner of Education Richard P. Mills as acting district superintendent of Monroe 2-Orleans BOCES upon the retirement of Tod Eagle in July. Godshall began his duties on July 8. A new district superintendent is expected to be in place by January 1, 2005. more
