Wooden boat fest ready to set sail

Orleans County's Wooden Boat Festival and Taste of Orleans continues to grow and build and now in its fourth year, the festival offers two days of music, fun and food - and of course, wooden boats.

"We have just been growing and expanding on our successes each year with this festival," David Kelly, executive director of the Orleans County Chamber of Commerce said.

Kelly said the Taste of Orleans, which has been in collaboration with the Wooden Boat Festival for three years, is a way for cooks in Orleans County to spotlight their talents. "The Taste of Orleans is a way for visitors to come and sample the bounty of what Orleans county has to offer."

Visitors are invited to tour the classic boats while taking in the sights, sounds and tastes of the vendors. Kelly said there are more craft and food vendors lined up this year than there have been in previous years.

Last year, Kelly said, more than 2,400 people showed up for the event. "Even with the bad weather we had a great turnout."

The festival will be Saturday, August 14 from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Sunday, August 15 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Orleans County Marine Park on Route 98, near Point Breeze.
