Justin Talbott, a junior at Ithaca College, has been awarded the Fred L. Emerson Endowed Scholarship in addition to the college's Presidential Scholarship for the 2004-2005 academic year. He is majoring in film production with minors in audio production and web programming. Talbott is the son of Bill and Linda Talbott of Spencerport.


The following students received undergraduate degrees from St. Bonaventure University during commencement ceremonies on May 16.

Lindsay A. Ardella received a bachelor of arts degree in sociology. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Anthony Ardella of Hamlin;

Bridget A. Quinn earned a bachelor of science degree in elementary education/special education. Quinn is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Martin Quinn of Brockport;

Meagan K. Villa earned a bachelor of arts degree in sociology. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Peter Villa of Brockport;

Shannon M. Young received a bachelor of science degree cum laude in education. A resident of Kendall, Young's parents are, Mr. and Mrs. Todd G. Young.

Holly M. Volkmuth earned a bachelor of science degree in elementary education/special education. She graduated magna cum laude. Volkmuth is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Volkmuth of Spencerport.

Giavanna M. Ferrari earned a bachelor of arts degree in sociology. Ferrari's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Louis Ferrari, are from Rochester.


The Girl Scouts of Genesee Valley, Inc. recently honored Jessica Racheal Heale with a Silver Award, the highest honor a Cadette Girl Scout can earn. Heale, of Troop 941 in the Spencerport Service Unit, completed a Fun Stuff for Ferrets project.


Mary Lobene has successfully been one of the Top Seller and Producers of the Spencerport office throughout most of the year, according to Dan Head, manager of the Nothnagle Spencerport office.

Lobene has a great desire to make selling or buying a house as pleasurable and effortless as possible, Head stated in a press release.

Because of her outstanding commitment to real estate and her clients, Mary has received numerous awards and achievements. In addition to all her awards, she was named the number 10 agent in the company out of over 550 agents for 2003, Head said.

Lobene is in her 20th year in Real Estate Sales, always a fulltime Realtor Associate specializing in residential and new home sales. She resides in Ogden/Spencerport with her husband, Raymond Bilinski, and their sons, Beau and Jared.


Navy Airman Julie A. Zukoski, daughter of Lynda J. Zukoski of Rochester, and Joseph G. Zukoski of Hilton, completed U.S. Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, III.


Army Capt. Todd D. Farrell and Capt. Jennifer M. Farrell, a husband and wife team, have returned to Germany after being deployed to an overseas forward operating location in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Todd received the Bronze Star Medal and Air Medal, and Jennifer received the Army Commendation Medal, for their participation in Iraqi Freedom.

The Bronze Star Medal is awarded to an individual who, while serving in the U.S. armed forces, has performed a heroic act, meritorious achievement or distinguished service during armed conflict or ground combat while engaged against an armed enemy of the United States.

The Air Medal is awarded to any person who, while serving in any capacity in or with the armed forces of the United States, has distinguished himself or herself by meritorious achievement while participating in aerial flight.

The medal is primarily intended to recognize those individuals who are on current crew member or non-crew member flying status which requires them to participate in aerial flight on a regular and frequent basis in the performance of their primary duties. Awards may be made to recognize single acts of merit or heroism or for meritorious service.

The Army Commendation Medal is awarded to individuals who, while serving in any capacity with the Army, have distinguished themselves by acts of heroism, meritorious achievement or meritorious service.

Todd, a medical evacuation pilot with the 421st Medical Evacuation Battalion at Wiesbaden Air Base, is the son of Nancy R. and stepson of Terry Young of Dunbar Road, Hilton. He graduated in 1992 from Greece Arcadia High School and received a bachelor's degree in 1997 from the Rochester Institute of Technology.

Jennifer, a physician's assistant with the 123rd Main Support Battalion in Dexheim, is the daughter of Gary A. and Barbara J. Funk of W. Academy Street, Canisteo. She graduated in 1996 from Canisteo High School, and received a bachelor's degree in the year 2000 from the Rochester Institute of Technology. She earned her master's degree in 2002 from the University of Nebraska.


Air Force Airman Jordan M. Webster has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas.

He is the son of Martin Webster of Idelwood Drive, Brockport, and grandson of Marie Glitzer of Adeane Drive, Rochester and a 2002 graduate of Brockport High School.
