Parma Public Library offers blog site for young adults

What is a "blog," "blogging" or a "weblog?" All of these terms refer to one of the latest resources used by Young Adult (YA) librarians to communicate with their patrons. A blog site offers teens a familiar on-line venue in which to communicate directly with their YA librarian. Teens can add their comments to their library's web page by posting their comments, making YA book purchase suggestions, joining in on-line book discussions, getting ready answers to reference questions, and gathering information on and helping to plan future YA programming.

The Parma Public Library has two blog sites. Both the Blog Spot For Teens and the Blog Spot for Kids are accessible as links directly from the Parma Public Library's Homepage at www.libraryweb.org/parma. Catherine Kyle, Parma Library's Youth Services librarian and creator of the Parma blogs, was pleased to learn that her blog for teens received coverage in the Summer 2004 edition of YAttitudes, the newsletter of the Young Adult Library Services Association, which is a division of the American Library Association.
