Newsmakers for the week of
August 15, 2004


Melanie Bowen, daughter of Charlene Bowen and the late Gary Bowen of Hilton and a graduate of Hilton High School, graduated in May from the University of Miami. She received bachelor's degrees in science and communications and in theater. She also was on the second semester Provost's Honor Roll with a 3.9 GPA.


Danielle Colaprete, daughter of Daniel and Sandra Colaprete of Spencerport, has been named to the spring 2004 dean's list at Keuka College in Keuka Park. Colaprete, a freshman, is studying accounting.

A Keuka College student must have earned at least a 3.50 grade point average for each block of at least 12 semester credit hours to be eligible for the dean's list.


Shannon Lynn Granville from Spencerport, graduated from the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia with a bachelor of arts degree.

Thomas J. Small graduated from McQuaid Jesuit High School. During the ceremony, he was recognized for being a Hands of Christ recipient and for perfect attendance during his high school career. While a member of the Boy Scouts of America, Small attained the rank of Eagle Scout. He will pursue a degree in software engineering at RIT in the fall.

He is the son of Jeffrey and Kathryn Small of Chili.


Sandra K. Small graduated magna cum laude from St. John Fisher College with a bachelor of science degree in biology. While at Fisher, she was presented with the academic award for adolescent teaching, she was co-president of the biology club, and was a service scholar, which required service hours within the community. Small has been offered and accepted a fellowship at the University at Buffalo and will pursue a Ph.D. in microbiology.

A 2000 graduate of Aquinas Institute, she is the daughter of Jeffrey and Kathryn Small of Chili.


Katie Boetcher, of Spencerport, was named to the dean's list at Canisius College for the spring 2004 semester. She is a senior communication studies major.

Colleen J. Corcoran, a freshman in the school of music at Duquesne University, was named to the spring 2004 dean's list. She is the daughter of John B. and Sharon Corcoran of Hilton.


The following students from SUNY Brockport were named 2004 dean's scholars: From Brockport: Joshua Arnold, Abbey Blackburn, Rebekah Nowak, Khristina O'Connor, Anastasia Pennington, Molly Pricola, Janel Stepanek, Kathryn Wieczorek; from Hilton: Nicole Barrett, Jenna Crampton, Samatha Kunc, Nicholas Palermo; from Hamlin: Kelly Greene and from Spencerport: Maryalice Blasioli.

Corrine Fry of Kendall was named a 2004 Distinguished Scholar at SUNY Brockport.

The following residents have been awarded academic scholarships from SUNY College at Brockport and those receiving Presidential Scholarships are: Kimberly Pulhamus from Spencerport; Steven Begy, Valerie Dimino, both from Hilton.

The following transfer students received Presidential Scholarships: Kathryn Atkinson of Hilton and Seth Corona of Spencerport.

Matthew Soper of Spencerport earned a 2004 Faculty Scholarship for transfer students at SUNY Brockport.

Jaime Scheg, daughter of Dr. Daniel and Laurie Scheg of Hilton, has graduated from Florida Southern College in Lakeland, Florida, with a biology/psychology degree. She was on the dean's list and graduated a semester early. She resides in Altamonte Springs, Florida, working at Cosmetics Plastic Surgery Specialists.


Jennifer Scheg, daughter of Dr. Daniel and Laurie Scheg of Hilton, has graduated from the Onondaga School of Therapeutic Massage. She passed her New York State Boards and is a licensed, registered massage therapist, employed at Therapeutic Massage and Bodyworks in Gates. She plans to continue her education to specialize in pregnancy, newborn and geriatric massage.


Kimmie Scheg, daughter of Dr. Daniel and Laurie Scheg of Hilton, has been named to the dean's list for the second consecutive semester at St. John Fisher College. She will begin her sophomore year in the fall and is an elementary/special education major. She graduated in June 2003 from Nazareth Academy.


Air Force Senior Airman Joseph A. Marsala Jr. has graduated from Airman Leadership School at Whiteman Air Force Base, Knob Noster, Missouri.

Marsala is an aircrew life support journeyman assigned to the 393rd Bomb Squadron. He is the son of Donna L. Brewerton of Hilton and Joseph A. Marsala of Arkport and a 1998 graduate of Hilton High School.


Navy Seaman Apprentice Matt F. Rohrbacher, son of Donna L. Rohrbacher of Cheektowaga and Scott Rohrbacher of Hilton, recently completed U.S. Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Illinois.


Army Reserve Pvt. Rachel L. McFadden has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, South Carolina.

McFadden is the daughter of Lisa Warney of Holley. In 2002, the soldier graduated from West Irondequoit High School.


Air Force Senior Airman Laura A. Kraft is currently deployed overseas at a forward operating location in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.

She is the daughter of Donald C. and Ae Chin Holmes of North Chili. Her husband, Jaqe, is the son of Donald and Diane Kraft of Waterloo, Wisconsin. Kraft is a 2001 graduate of Churchville-Chili Senior High School.
