New meal prices set for Spencerport students

Meal prices for the Spencerport Central School District will increase slightly for the 2004-05 school year. The student breakfast price increases to $1 while elementary Kindergarten through fifth grade lunch increases to $1.75. Secondary lunch sixth to 12th increases to $1.90. Milk prices increase to 50 cents. "We hate to raise prices, but unfortunately gas and food prices, especially for dairy products, have gone up and we have no choice," said Denise Kelley, director of food services. "We also want to remind families that we have applications for the free- and reduced-price meals program."

The Spencerport School Food Service program offers several ways to pay for school meals, including prepayment by check. Students can give prepayments to the cashiers in their buildings; checks should be made payable to "Spencerport School Lunch Fund." All the a la carte items are handled on a cash basis. A la carte milk is $.50; a student who purchased milk or lunch may purchase a second milk for $.30. Ice cream prices, unchanged this year, vary from $.50 to $.65. The featured menu for the opening week will be chicken nuggets with dipping sauces and a roll on Wednesday, September 8; Spencerport Whopper on Thursday, and stuffed crust pizza on Friday. Vegetable and fruit choices are offered daily.

Free and reduced meal applications are available in all school buildings and in the school food service office in the administration building. Parents may apply for a free or reduced meal at any time during the school year. Reduced price breakfast and lunch meals remain at $.25.
