Farmers' Library establishes memorial book fund

The Clara Wilder Memorial Book Fund has been established by the trustees of the Ogden Farmers' Library. The fund will be used to collect donations given to the library by those who wish to honor the memory of a loved one, or by those who simply wish to make a donation to the library.

The library's memorial fund had previously been transferred into a building fund in the 1980s when the library began raising money for a new building. Since that time, memorial donations have been counted as part of the library's general income. The establishment of a separate memorial fund will designate that such donations are to be used specifically for the purchase of books. General donations to the library can also be earmarked for this fund.

The library trustees chose to name the fund in honor of Clara Wilder, who passed away in 2001. She was a member of the library board of trustees for more than 35 years and was also a local school teacher. One of the greatest pleasures of Wilder's life was reading and she shared that love with many people. She was devoted to the library and helped guide it through at least two moves, several librarians and into the computer age. Donations in her memory continue to arrive at the library. Her grandson, Scott McGurrin, has sent a generous donation annually since 2001. Wilder's vast knowledge of books and her sharp wit are missed by the library trustees and staff and they believe the establishment of this book fund is a fitting memorial to a woman who gave so many years to the library.
