Collaboration makes two Fun on the Farm festivals possible
Families can experience farming in the past and present during two fall weekends made possible by a collaboration between Genesee Country Village & Museum and Springdale Farm. The first event, held at the Genesee Country Village & Museum (GCV&M) on Saturday and Sunday, September 11 and 12 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., features farm animals, children's crafts, butter churning, children's chores, egg gathering, cheese making and root cellar storage demonstrations and additional attractions all aimed to give visitors a better understanding of farm life in the 19th-century. more

Environmental Law Course covers SEQRA and other laws
Leading environmental attorneys and government officials will give presentations at the annual environmental law course sponsored by the Center for Environmental Information (CEI). The course will be held at Nazareth College, Wednesday evenings September 15, 22, 29 and October 13 from 7 to 9:15 p.m. more

Monument shelf-sitter unveiled, offered for sale
The Brockport Fire Department, in cooperation with Lock, Stock & Barrel Gifts at Eastview Mall, Victor, hosted an invitational with artist and sculptor Richard Kron as they released the "Fire Museum and Firefighter's Memorial Monument" shelf sitter. Each year, Lock Stock and Barrel adds three new images or replicas to their Rochester Landmark Series and this is the latest addition to the collection. more

Oak Orchard Watershed Protection Alliance meeting set
The Oak Orchard Watershed Protection Alliance was established in August to guide the development of the State of the Basin Report for the Oak Orchard Watershed. The Alliance, a multi-county effort sponsored by the Genesee and Orleans County Soil and Water Conservation Districts, is seeking participation and input from all of the stakeholders in the development of the "Oak Orchard State of the Basin Report" and future watershed planning efforts. more

Ogden Historical Society to hear "Ghost Ships Return" update
Amateur historian Jim Fischer will return to the Ogden Historical Society's museum at the Pulver House on Sunday, September 12, to update the group on his research about Ghost Ships of Lake Ontario. more

Scout earns Eagle rank
Boy Scout Troop 53 held an Eagle ceremony to recognize Thomas J. Small for attaining the rank of Eagle Scout. Friends and family were in attendance at St. Christopher's Church in North Chili to honor his achievement. more

Dawn Rejewski organized the Pie and Dessert Baking Contest for Clarkson Good Neighbor Day August 28. The entrees were judged on texture, taste and appearance. The contest was sponsored by Ryan's Big M and the Clarkson Horseman Association. more

Lightning strike burns in roof for 10 hours
Thirty-three members of the Hamlin Fire Department responded to a fire in a twelve-unit apartment building that was sparked by a lightning strike from a vicious storm ten hours earlier. more

Navy Club of Lake Ontario receives NYS grant
The Navy Club of Lake Ontario received a $12,500 New York State grant to support its daily operating expenses, programs for veterans and renovation of its sea service museum. The club also received a donation of three computers from SUNY Brockport and now has internet access for research. more

Orleans County hosting shore clean-up day
The Orleans County Water Quality Coordinating Committee is preparing for their fourth annual Shoreline Clean-up to be held on September 18. This event coincides with the 19th Annual International Coastal Cleanup which involves 91 counties and over 450,000 volunteers. more

Now starting their third year of play as a varsity sport, the Hilton Cadets field hockey team is still looking for their first win. But the 4-0 and 5-0 losses of two years ago are now one goal losses so it is just a matter of time before there will be quite a celebration in Hilton. more

Ranger Football home opener Saturday, September 11
The Spencerport Rangers Varsity Football Team will open their home 2004 season on Saturday, September 11 versus the Hilton Cadets. Kick off is at 2 p.m. This will be the first game to be played at the new high school football field. more

McQuaid junior earns gold
Rob MacClaren, a junior at McQuaid Jesuit High School, competed in the NYS Fencing Championships earning a gold in scholastic foil, gold in scholastic epee and silver in scholastic sabre. more

Eleven-year-old wins fishing pole for longest fish
Eleven-year-old Samantha Black won a new fishing pole at Clarkson Good Neighbor Day August 28. Black caught the longest fish in her age group, a bass measuring 11.5 inches. more

Spencerport Homecoming/Spirit Week games and events scheduled
Come support Spencerport High School's sports, clubs and classes during the annual Homecoming/Spirit Week September 27 - October 2. The High School will hold a pep assembly on Thursday at 1:30 p.m. in the gymnasium and Cosgrove Middle School will hold two pep assemblies on Thursday, September 30 at 1 and 2 p.m. more
