Firefighters donate historic
apparatus to statewide museum

Brockport firefighters, in cooperation with the Village of Brockport, have retired the oldest active fire engine in the fleet. Their 1971 Hahn was purchased from Hahn Motors, Inc. of Hamburg, PA and came off the line in October 1971. It has been an active pumper in the department’s fleet since its arrival until this year. more

Brockport police wrap up busy, arrest-filled weekend
The Labor Day weekend saw Brockport's police officers stretched to the limit when they responded to 353 calls. more

Brockport sign code continues
Brockport village officials and residents continue to debate and question the rules and regulations when it comes to its sign codes. While some of the board members seem to favor a more lenient approach to the village's codes, other board members and residents say that if a law is on the books then the municipality should enforce it, or if they don't want to enforce it then they should look at changing it. more

Brockport's visitor center construction resumes
As soon as the weather cooperates, work will resume at the site of the Brockport canalside museum and visitor center. Mayor Josephine Matela said the village received a resume work order from the Canal Corporation and crews would commence construction when the weather permitted. more

Communities declare states of emergency;
attempt to deal with water

In an ironic twist, County Executive Maggie Brooks' planned press conference on emergency preparedness turned into the real thing as the Western Monroe area responded to the damaging rainfall that buffeted the area on Wednesday, September 8 and continued on into the afternoon hours of Thursday. more

Hamlin hosting a safety expo
Hamlin Recreation will hold a Safety Expo on Saturday, September 18 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Hamlin Town Hall. The event is free for all ages. Activities include: child safety kits, pet safety and adoptions, fire safety presentations, car seat inspection, fire trucks and ambulances on display, home safety assessment for seniors, smoke detector demonstration, Jaws of Life and a kids tricycle roadway. more

Senator selected for New York Farm Bureau honor
The New York Farm Bureau, the state's largest general farm advocacy organization, has selected Senator George D. Maziarz (62nd District) as a member of the "Circle of Friends." This prestigious distinction was bestowed in light of Maziarz's legislative record during the 2004 session. more

Women gain control of their futures
with Lifespan services

Lifespan offers more than 22 programs to individuals in need, and one of those is the Women in Transition Services. It is offered under the Displaced Homemakers funded by the New York State Department of Labor. more

The Village of Churchville's carillon on the Village Clock Tower rang in memory of September 11, 2001. The Village of Churchville dedicated the clock tower to the many lives lost, their families and the heroes of September 11. more

Primary election set for Orleans County
A Democratic and Republican party primary election will be held in Orleans County on September 14. more

Tax rate approved in C-C, lower than projected
A tax rate of $24.65 per $1,000 of assessed property value was approved by the Churchville-Chili Board of Education at its August 10 meeting. The $24.65 rate is for taxpayers in Ogden, Chili and Sweden. The tax rate for the Town of Riga was set at $25.15 per $1,000 due to a reduction of the town's equalization rate. more

Monroe 2-Orleans BOCES will offer the Test of Adult Basic Education (TABE) at the Holley Community Free Library, 86 Public Square, on Wednesday, September 15 at 4:30 p.m. more

Hilton School District opens full-day kindergarten
Hilton Central School District welcomed back 4,494 students including Kara Phillips, Brendan Zacks and Madison Murphy, three of the district's 284 full-day kindergarteners. more

Logan named VP at Roberts Wesleyan
Ruth A. Logan has been promoted to vice president of administration at Roberts Wesleyan College and Northeastern Seminary. Logan has served as director of human resources since 2000. more

MCC students inducted into honor society
Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society at Monroe Community College has inducted 110 of the highest-achieving students during the summer of 2004. The students were honored for their academic success and involvement in college and community activities. more

C-C Saints netters starting over
Churchville-Chili's boys volleyball team didn't lose a single game all last season en route to the Section Five title. more

C-C soccer starts 4-1
Last year, Fairport was the kingpin in boy's soccer and Churchville-Chili beat them 3-2 for their first loss of the season. This season the Saints started 4-0 before the Red Raiders came back to town and took home a 2-1 upset. more

Local martial arts instructor wins championship
S&S Fitness Gym & Martial Arts Center hosted the Junior Invitational Championships at the Brockport Oliver Middle School on July 10. more

Rangers drop football opener
Spencerport cut a three-touchdown first half deficit to nine points with a third quarter surge but fell short against defending Sectional champ Gates Chili in a 35-12 loss. more

Registration begins at Off the Wall soccer
Off the Wall soccer opens for the year with soccer clinics available for ages 5-14 starting the week of September 27. The 50-minute sessions will focus on fast footwork, technical skill development, and game play. more
