C-C Saints netters starting over

Churchville-Chili's boys volleyball team didn't lose a single game all last season en route to the Section Five title. Three seniors from that squad have moved on to play Division I volleyball - Jim Clar at the University of Hawaii after a stint this summer with the U.S. Under-18 team and Eric Palumbo and Chris Scheckel at Springfield College in Massachusetts.

One season and a whole new crop of players later and the Saints haven't skipped a beat as they defeated Brockport 25-12, 25-10 and 25-22 in the season opener for both teams.

"Those guys were together for so long and on the court most of the time," said Saints head coach Joe Eschberger. "These guys are just starting to feel their way."

The Saints handily won the first two games before the Blue Devils rallied in the third and led by five points on kills by Caleb Dickson and a block by Andy Cargas along with two points awarded when the Saints failed to lineup properly before the serve. C-C came back to tie the games at 17-17 before taking the lead for good and opening up a three-point lead on a Sean Krisher kill and two consecutive kills by Andrew Zess.

Chris DeHority led with 11 kills, Bryan Saeva had seven digs and Mike Fink dished out 20 assists in his first game action as a setter.

Dickson paced Brockport with five kills and Pete Terilli had 15 assists.
