Spend a Sunday afternoon learning about area history

Seven museums and historical societies in this area are sponsoring the second annual "Olde Northampton Heritage Day" on Sunday afternoon, September 26. They are jointly holding open houses, inviting area residents to tour their facilities and view their museum collections. Admission is free.

Northampton was the name of the first town organized in western New York. It included the entire area between the Genesee River and Lake Erie. The five towns participating in the "Olde Northampton Heritage Day" were parts of the Town of Northampton.

A brochure describing the facilities and collections and providing a map and driving directions is available at the participating institutions and municipal offices.

Bicyclists are invited to join a guided group that will tour some of the museums. It will meet at the Capen Hose firehouse at the intersection of South Main Street and Park Avenue in Brockport at noon. Two options are available: (1) cycle the canal towpath to the Murray-Holley Museum and back; or (2) ride of longer route that will include Brockport, Clarkson, Holley and Clarendon. For information contact Marilyn Colby, 637-2014 or mcolby@brockport.edu.
