Apple Pie contest winners bake up tastiest treats

The Apple Pie Contest Committee of the 2004 Hilton Apple Fest have announced the winners of this year's contest.

The first place prize of $100 for the adult division was won by Shannon Petruzzi of Rochester. She used Cortland apples to make the prize winning pie. Second place of $50 went to a Hilton resident, Doris Hutchison, who used Northern Spy apples for her pie. The third place prize of $25 was won by Andrea Elliotto of Rochester. She used Crispin and McIntosh apples for her pie.

The first place prize of $25 for the youth division was won by Lisa Hook of Rochester. She used Crispin and Cortland apples to make the prize winning pie. Second place prize of $10 went to Hilton resident Kelly Comden who used 20 ounce apples for her pie.

The crust and filling of each pie were judged for appearance, texture and taste. Judging the adult apple pie contest was Paul Marvin, a life-long resident of the Hilton area; Dave Miller who is a math teacher at Merton-Williams Middle School in Hilton; Carol Ritter, a retired columnist for the Rochester daily newspaper; Karen Joba, who is a manager at the M&T Bank in Hilton. For the youth division, the judges were Rachel Quetschenbach, who is a student at Merton Williams Middle School and Jared Kaminski, who is a student at QUEST Elementary School in Hilton.

Volunteers who helped with the contest included Jennifer Ott, Becky Hibbard, Mary Herring, Jan Lincoln, Sue and Allison Gallacher.

Terry Quetschenbach and Pam Kaminski were co-chairs of the Apple Pie Contest.
