Blue Devils win on late goal by Williams

Eighth-grader Chelsea Williams scored off an assist from freshman Kim Hunt with just eleven minutes remaining in regulation as Brockport defeated Hilton 2-1 in girls soccer.

The Blue Devils jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the 16th minute when Emily Koop scored on a floating shot just under the crossbar from 20 yards out. The Cadets tied the game in the 66th minute when Patty Nellis netted a loose ball in the box off a corner kick.

The Cadets just missed taking the lead two minutes later when Casey Reinhardt fed Marina Accordo who just missed the far post. Just minutes later Williams scored for the Blue Devils, but the Cadets threatened two more times to again tie the game.

Shelby Ritchie fed Nellis who hit the side of the net with six minutes left and, in the final seconds, Amanda Hayward had her shot knocked aside by Brockport goalkeeper Rachel Popowich before the ensuing corner kick was also saved at the final buzzer.

Popowich made 13 saves in the Brockport nets as they broke a four game winless streak to improve to 3-6-1.
