Rangers shutout Schroeder

Cristy Cousin, Michele Palma and Angela Bopp scored second half goals to lead Spencerport to a 3-0 victory over Webster-Schroeder in girl's soccer to break their five game winless streak.

After a scoreless first half, kept that way by a diving save by Rangers goalkeeper Becky Scroger in the 8th minute of play, dominated by the Warriors, Spencerport began creating scoring opportunities. In the 54th minute, Valerie Snider chipped a high shot toward the Schroeder net that the goalkeeper bobbled before jumping on the rebound.

Just five minutes later the Rangers took a 1-0 lead when Samantha Hawn found Cousin in the right side of the box. After a one-touch dribble around a defender, Cousin used her left foot and put the ball inside the far post.

Just one minute later, Hawn again set up a Rangers goal when she rushed down the left sideline to the corner and crossed the ball to Palma all alone in front of the net. In the 62nd minute, Spencerport scored their third goal in just over three minutes of play as Janelle Danehy played a ball into the box and Bopp converted of the ensuing scramble for the final tally.

Scroger made four saves in net in registering her first shutout of the season for the Rangers as the back line of Danehy, Margaret McEntee and Stephanie Snyder kept the scoring chances to a minimum. Spencerport improved to 3-5-1 with the win.
